I'm making Vogue V8991 by Claire Shaeffer. The materials are:
- Italian Speckled Tweed Suiting in oatmeal, white and black, a wool blend from Fabrics & Fabrics
- Prabal Gurung Brushstroke Floral Printed Silk Crepe de Chine in black and off white from Fabrics & Fabrics
- 3/8" pale cream rosettes on black ribbon trim from Britex, sewn over 5/8" Petersham grosgrain ribbon
- Silver chain from Susan Khalje Couture - a heavy, polished chain that looks almost like jewelry, which is sewn to the inside hem to add weight and help the jacket hang nicely
- Silk organza interfacing from Susan Khalje Couture
- Pro-Sheer Elegance Couture interfacing (using organza in some areas and Pro-Sheer in others)
- 13/16" black and silver blazer buttons from Benno's Buttons
- Silk buttonhole twist thread for buttonholes from Superior Threads
- Vogue V8991 pattern, thread, stay tape etc. all from stash
I'm mostly following the steps in Claire's book and video "Couture Sewing: The Couture Cardigan Jacket", referring from time to time to the printed pattern.
One change is that the pattern calls for the front (1) and collar lining to be the same fabric as the other jacket fabric. I really like have the silk ling edge-to-edge, so bought a little extra silk lining and will hand sew it to the front, as in the video.
There's lots of handwork in this project - my favorite part! The pattern has very helpful definitions and drawings of the different hand stitches used.
